Key Achievements
Since AFS interventions in rural areas; there has been tremendous change in terms of the living conditions of poor communities especially the un-educated women. AFS’s Key achievements include but limited to;
- Creation of 55 saving groups for socio-economic development with more than 300 vulnerable people
- Support and improvement of the living conditions of women through saving groups
- Provision of knowledge and skills in savings and credit management, business, leadership, conflict resolutions, communication, nutrition, health and family planning to more than 384 beneficiaries
- Initiation of income generating projects for socio-economic development of un-employed women
- Empowerment of youth through students’ sponsorship; provision of academic requirements to many students at all levels including 7 now at university level
- Creation of off farm environmentally sensitive projects which improved the living conditions of poor grassroots women.
- Provision health care including counseling, nutrition services and provision of health insurance among others to HIV positive members.
- Establishment of a training center through which the youth is provided with IT skills for job creation.
- Establishment of soap making project for economic development of women
- Groups managed to buy plots of lands as a results of savings and credit management skills
- Groups became credit worthy for loans from financial institutions.
- Their regular meetings strengthened their social development and sense of belonging which ensures the sustainability of initiated projects.
- Groups adopt a participatory technique to analyze their situation for their resilience
- AFS intends to initiate a project that provide alternative methods for cooking energy which transforms wastes into energy for climate change adaptation
